Report from Dewayne and Rita Shappley

For the month of September, 2014

This graphic of a globe of the Earth with electronic signals flowing to it illustrates the Dewayne Shappley Report for September, 2014.

For September, our daily Internet “Audience” was 4,038, for a weekly total of 28,266. The sum of visits for the 30 days of the month was 121,135. Visitors opened a total of 210,074 documents (Bible studies, sermons, articles, leadership training lessons).

Because of these numbers I make the Internet my main podium, and consider it my sacred duty to keep them daily in mind as I determine the use of my time and talents. How else and where else can I teach so many souls each and every day, seven days a week? True it is that I do not see those tens of thousands face to face. Nevertheless, they are present and they are real people. And, many, many thousands of them must be returning once and again to partake of what we offer them, otherwise, the numbers would not continue consistently in this range month after month, year after year. So I reason, always petitioning God the Father for guidance and wisdom to diligently and effectively utilize this medium of evangelizing and edifying.

At the Wednesday night service, Sept. 10, 2014, Luis Samuel Luciano, about 45 years old, is baptized by Jorge Ginés López and Rafael Torres, two men who preach, teach and lead singing in the Bayamon church.

Baptism in the Bayamon, Puerto Rico congregation

At the Wednesday night service, Sept. 10, 2014, Luis Samuel Luciano, about 45 years old, is baptized by Jorge Ginés López and Rafael Torres, two men who preach, teach and lead singing in the Bayamon church. Luis has been attending regularly on Sunday mornings for several months, and before that had attended sporadically for some two years. He is the eleventh person to be baptized in Bayamon this year.

Personal report presented to four congregations in Tennessee

Report by Dewayne Shappley, in PowerPoint, 32 slides, for September, 2014.

This report consists of thirty-two, full-color slides prepared in PowerPoint, all containing pictures and/or graphics. Emphasis is on the fruits of Internet evangelism and edification, as well as facts and examples about the content of the three sites we maintain. While we were in Tennessee, during September, 2014, this report was presented to four congregations, as follows:

-Sept. 10, 2014. Wednesday. Cairo, TN church.

-Sept. 17, 2014. Wednesday. Maury City, TN church.

-Sept. 24, 2014. Wednesday. Natchez Trace church, Nashville, TN.

-Sept. 28, 2014. Sunday morning. Horse Mountain church, Shelbyville, TN.

A CD of this Report, plus regular Reports from 2008 to the present, is available.

A Printed version of this Special Report is attached to the printed versions of these two regular reports for August and September, 2014.

Visits with Family in Tennessee

In Tennessee, we not only had the pleasure of worshiping with the congregations mentioned above but also that of visiting family members we had not seen in about two years. Especially, our daughter, Sharon Laretta, her children, Michael, Christopher and Rebecca Michaela, and grandchildren. Yes, we have two great grandchildren: Carter, five year old son of Michael and Dana, and Sophia, sixteen month old daughter of Rebecca Michaela and Chris.

Both Rita and I were affected by rather severe allergy/sinus/virus attacks while we were in Tennessee, even having to go one Sunday, at midnight, to the emergency facilities of a hospital in Jackson, where we were each prescribed a concoction, not covered by insurance, costing $80 a bottle! It did begin to work within 30 minutes, thankfully.

New or revised material added during September

Due to travel, the preparation of the Special Report in PowerPoint and, to some degree, sickness, the amount of material placed on Internet sites in September was considerably less than during previous months. The two main titles are the following.

Dilemams of babies being born today, one of a series of slides in Spanish, this one illustrating the Shappley Report for September, 2014.

“Dilemmas of Babies Born Today”

This title, and the focus on it from the imagined “viewpoints of babies,” came to mind as I considered the plight of so many infants being born into our “Digital World.” The above image is a reduced-in-size version of the first slide in the series, of which I have produced two thus far, with more to follow soon, Lord willing. To me, the picture on the left is absolutely striking. An infant version of “The Thinker!” Such a profound, worried look in the eyes of so small a human. As if he were thinking: “I have been born, and I am growing physically, but who is taking charge, responsibly, for my mental, emotional, social and spiritual development?”

This subject will be, I think, useful as class material for teenagers, young adults, mature people, single parents, married parents, grandparents and even great grandparents. And also as an evangelistic tool, for the idea is to get the unbelieving and the un-churched to analyze seriously what trajectory their lives are taking and how they are programming their offspring to follow agendas and goals of third parties providing digital upbringing.

The slides are made available individually, and also as a PDF document. Following is a link to Lesson 1. www.editoriallapaz.org/hijos-crianza-dilemas-aparatos-digitales-1.html.

Priests of the tribe of Levi carry the Ark of the Covenant across the Jordan River. This is an example of graphics that add interest and color to the following document.

“The Earthly Tabernacle versus the Spiritual Tabernacle”

Four more revised sections of this work by Juan Colón have been added, bringing to forty-four the number of equivalent, letter-size pages. There are many studies here suitable for Bible classes. Much emphasis is given to the symbolism of the tabernacle and the sacred items within it, duties of the priests, their garments designed by God, etc.

E-mails and accompanying Notes open windows on the contents of the three sites, some of them also revealing fruits of these ministries.

Internet Data after the E-mails

-Place not identified. Sept. 05, 2014. “Many thanks, brethren. May the Lord bless you greatly.”  Erick. Referer: "http://www.editoriallapaz.org/tiempo_pasa.htm"

-Erick wrote this brief note with regard to the sermon “Time Passes,” one of 98 on our site, most of full text, several in PowerPoint and one, a video.

-Carora, Lara, Venezuela. Sept. 08, 2014. “I am fully in agreement with your position.”Elizabeth Vásquez. Referer: "http://www.editoriallapaz.org/diezmos_Medina_Venezuela_refuta.htm"

-According to the Referer, Elizabeth made this statement about the study “Refuting the Doctrine of the Tithe,” by Wuiston Medina, of Venezuela.

-Place not identified. Sept. 12, 2014. “I think the content of this Web Page is very interesting since it provides clarifying information making it possible for us to obtain more resources with regard to teaching about the veil for women.” José Ángel Castillo Trujillo.

-Girardot, Cundinamarca, Colombia. Sept. 13, 2014. “I like your method of teaching about tithes. For many years, I have been doing it [teaching] in the same way, although I continue to tithe in the Pentecostal Church. I did not make my decision based on that doctrine, nor have I ever approved founding what I do on old teachings…” José Ramírez Henao. Referer: "http://www.editoriallapaz.org/Diezmos.htm"

-José goes on to explain that he tithed voluntarily to help worthy ministers, that he believes in giving more than the tithe if possible, and that he was shunned by the Pentecostal Church for his beliefs. The Referer is to a document containing 41 questions and answers about the tithe of the Old Law, giving according to the New Law, and finances in the church. Through the years, I have observed that not a few Pentecostals understand their religion is based on numerous doctrinal errors, such as following the Old Testament more than the New, but the great majority of that number does not make a clean break with Pentecostalism, “fear of the pastor” and “fear of blaspheming the Holy Spirit” being the chief detaining factors, in my opinion.

-Ensenada, Baja California, México. Sept. 14, 2014. “God bless you for this space you dedicate to the brethren of this country and the rest of the world. I want you to know that your Web Page is a great help and that here in Ensenada we have more congregations…” Saraí Suárez Álvarez

-Saraí goes on to list a number of congregations in the city of Ensenada and the state of Baja California. I requested she send detailed information on each one to be included in the Directory on editoriallapaz.org for México.

-New Jersey. Sept. 15, 2014. “Hello. May peace be with you. My family and I are distributing messages based on your studies. Would you have any objection to our adding your Web site for people who might have some doubt, so that they could go there and get information?” Brailam Estepan

-Of course, we do not have any objection! And so wrote to Brailam, a young woman 23 years old, who does this work with her mother and 18 year old sister.

-Zulia, Venezuela. Sept. 16, 2014. “I am giving studies on the symbols of Revelation and I think your explanations are on the mark.” Euclides Acevedo, who made this statement on the form he used to enroll for e-mails from us about new materials added to our sites.

-Houston, Texas. Sept. 17, 2014. “My beloved brother Homero, call me about accompanying us in April, 2015 as a speaker.” Fernando Corrales

-Several times in years past, I have been invited to speak at the Gulf States Lectureship, in Spanish, in Houston, Texas. This time, I am accepting, trusting God will use me, if indeed I am to make the trip and participate personally.

-Place not identified. Sept. 19, 2014. “I am in agreement with you with regard to your commentary on the secret rapture. I would like to know to what church you belong.” Jorge H. Referer: "http://www.editoriallapaz.org/rapto_desglose.htm"

-The Referer is to a list of materials on the “rapture” doctrine available on the site. We sent Jorge the link to the List of Resources on the Church in editoriallapaz.

-Nicaragua. Sept. 23, 2014. “Hello, brother. May God bless you very much. Thanks for sharing such tremendous information. I am thankful to you and be sure it will be useful to me in the ministry for the Lord. From Nicaragua. Your brother in Christ, José Guido.”

-So much of the materials on the three Web sites we maintain is for the edification of the church. Many, many Bible class guides and sermons. Courses on how to prepare and present Bible classes and sermons. We rejoice to know that brethren like José Guido are using some of that information.

-Managua, Nicaragua. Sept. 24, 2014. “I have been a minister-evangelist for more than thirty years, have been in charge of five  congregations and have helped to begin seven new works.” Jorge Guillen. Church of Christ, Apartado EC 70, Managua, Nicaragua. Referer: "http://www.editoriallapaz.org/index.html"

-Jorge wrote this on the registry form to receive e-mails from us of new materials added to editoriallapaz. His is an excellent example of brethren in Latin America who have dedicated long years to the development of the church in Spanish-speaking countries.
